Neck

At around 14 days, Ash was able to lift his neck and easily move it from side to side while laying on his belly, or being held upright against my shoulder.

Regrets

Only recently have I felt disappointed with part of the birth of my son. At the time I was so thrilled with the fact that he was healthy (and don’t get me wrong, I’m still overjoyed) that I didn’t mind that I missed out on having him put on my chest immediately after he was […]

Damage

I did some serious damage to my butt during labour. Sixteen days later, and the pain is overwhelming. I don’t remember the pain in my tailbone/butt cheeks right after the birth, probably because my va-jay-jay hurt so FUCKING much, but since the swelling and 90% of the pain has subsided in that area, I […]

THE BUILDUP
I lost my mucous plug at about 6am on September 7th. By coincidence, I had a doctor’s appointment that morning at 10am, where the doctor decided that she’d do an internal exam just to see if I was at all dilated or effaced, which I wasn’t. She estimated that I still had ten […]

The First Week of Breastfeeding
Filed Under Breastfeeding, Daily | 5 Comments
To no surprise, the first week of breastfeeding was pretty difficult.
I was absolutely adamant about not bringing formula into the picture. There was no way it was going close to my baby’s lips, unless he was dying or it was some other equally-horrible reason.
I nursed him within the first hour of […]

Family beds are the way to go! Last night we slept for nearly twelve hours (in 3-4 hour incriments) with only short breaks in between we learned how to properly breastfeed so that he stays full for longer. The first few days I’d get have to get up to nurse nearly every hour. It was […]

First Checkup

We had a visit from the public health nurse today. Her visit is two-fold: one, I’m positive she was here to check things out and make sure that we are in a safe environment (therefore there was lots of cleaning up before her arrival!) and second, she is there to help with anything that I […]

Sleep Deprived, But Okay

Clive’s back to work today and my mom’s here until the weekend. It’s very nice to have help, even though I feel like continuing my regular work load. It’s weird to spend most of my time in bed. I really need to though- recovery’s been a bitch, and probably ranked harder than actual labour because […]

Well, the entire new family is home! I’m recovering well, but slowly. Ash has been feeding like a champ, which means that I don’t get enough sleep, but it’s worth it.
As Clive mentioned, my labour was 35 hours long, 22 of which I did without medication. I had a “walking epidural” which […]
